A child's overall development, including mental growth, requires movement.
Children know intuitively when it is time to make their first steps. Generally, they start toddling when they are between eighth and twelve months old. Between the first and the second year, a child's foot grows by about two shoe sizes a year. A girl's foot stops growing between 10 and 14 years of age, whereas a boy's foot does the same between 14 and 18.
Once a child has learned how to walk, his feet carry a lot more weight than before. Foot soles and legs play an increasingly important role. Muscles, ligaments and tendons constantly adapt to physical strain. When a child starts exploring the world in an upright position, it is extremely important for the soles of his feet to develop properly. Ninety eight percent of all children are born with normal legs. Most of the damage that is ever done to them occurs at a very early age because of a lack of movement, or due to badly fitting shoes.
To guarantee that the foot soles will develop properly, we have to ensure that they move as freely as possible. A child's feet need movement in order to develop healthily. The more your child plays, the stronger his feet become. Ideally, they should be bare or in comfortable shoes.
